Pink Ombre Baby Hooded Sweater

My quest for seamless baby patterns has been quite an adventure. 😀 As I mentioned in my blue Baby Hooded Sweater post, I absolutely love this pattern because it’s quite universal. It’s great for all genders, it’s easy to put on and take off (super important when dressing little babies), and it’s warm and cosy for any occasion.

I always prefer to use blended yarns when I knit for babies. As much as I love the 100% of natural yarns, they tend to be difficult to care for, especially when you have to wash baby clothes every day. Even the pure wool cowl I knit for my son, which I only washed by hand and dried flat, shrunk a little and eventually ended up looking a little felted after its third winter. (I know, I know… 3 winters is pretty good, but still, it was hard to watch 😆 )

Anyway… blended yarns allow for that every day washing without changing their look too much. I also want mothers to feel comfortable when caring for the clothes instead of stressing out about accidentally throwing a sweater in the wash and destroying it. I don’t even want to mention the word “dryer”. 😆 So, when looking at labels I try to buy yarns that have a little bit of acrylic in them. Even if it’s just 10%.

Now as you probably know, there is a huge difference between acrylics and acrylics. I mean there is acrylic yarns that are great for dishcloths and that’s the only thing that should be made with them. 😆 But there are other high-quality super soft acrylics that are just perfect for a baby garment.

So for this pink ombre hooded sweater, I chose a 50% Wool, 50% Acrylic yarn from Europe. It’s super soft and warm but also airy and easy to care for. This time I decided to have the seed stitch on the rim of the hood as well and I like how it turned out. Once thing I need to master is the Kitchener stitch. I don’t know what I am doing wrong, but somehow I can’t get it to look completely seamless. I’ll keep working on it 😀
